About PRP Therapy

Seasoned dermatologist Dr. Eric Wilkerson is excited to provide platelet-rich plasma therapy, also called PRP, at Fort Lauderdale Dermatology to help refresh your facial appearance. PRP therapy is one of the hottest cosmetic procedures in the industry due to its natural method and thrilling results and can be combined with a wide range of treatments. The procedure utilizes natural growth factors from your own blood plasma to stimulate your skin, decreasing the appearance of wrinkles, and address other cosmetic concerns, such as hair loss. To learn more about PRP therapy, contact our Fort Lauderdale, FL dermatology practice to schedule a private consultation. Dr. Wilkerson will be happy to discuss all the benefits of PRP and how it can help to improve your skin and appearance.

Ideal Candidates

Men and women who would like to improve the tone and texture of their complexion are typically the best candidates for PRP. Since it promotes collagen production naturally, PRP is also a fantastic anti-aging treatment option for rejuvenation if you have tired or dull-looking skin. PRP can also be incorporated into treatments for hair loss (alopecia) and added on to any microneedling procedure to increase healing time and improve overall results. Talk to Dr. Wilkerson if you have any skin conditions, blood disorders, or anemia to ensure that it is safe for you to undergo PRP therapy.

Procedure Technique

Once you are comfortably seated in one of our private treatment rooms, a small amount of blood will be taken from your arm and put into a centrifuge machine. Typically, we draw around one vial of blood. After about 30 minutes, the different components of the blood will be separated and ready for injection into the skin. We will load the concentrated plasma into a sterile syringe and inject it into the predetermined locations. The process of administering PRP typically only takes approximately five minutes, but this will vary in each patient. When PRP is combined with microneedling, our team may inject it beneath the skin or apply it topically at Dr. Wilkerson's discretion.

What to Expect

Plasma from PRP therapy naturally promotes collagen production and elastin to create tauter, more youthful-appearing skin. PRP therapy also offers regenerative effects and utilizes natural healing factors from your own platelets to rejuvenate your appearance and increase your healing response. Since it uses your own blood, the risk of an allergic or adverse reaction is virtually eliminated. You can expect your face to be a little red after PRP therapy as a few red blood cells are included in the plasma injection. A cold pack can be applied to the injection area to minimize discomfort and swelling. Depending on individual needs, Dr. Wilkerson may recommend that you receive PRP treatments every 4 – 6 weeks to achieve optimal results with touch-up sessions scheduled 3 – 6 months apart thereafter for maintenance. To further amplify your natural beauty, Dr. Wilkerson will recommend a customized skin care regimen that meets the unique needs of your skin.

When you have PRP treatments from Fort Lauderdale Dermatology, you can enjoy healthier and brighter skin along with a more youthful, glowing appearance.
